Second annual Seuss on the Loose huge success

"I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny. But we can have lots of good fun that is funny!" - The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss
Although Saturday began with light rain and fog, by the afternoon the skies began to burn off the dismal start to the morning as young and old came to Covered Bridge Park to participate in the second annual Seuss on the Loose. The event is the result of a partnership with Parks & Recreation, the Public Library, and Main Street.
The purpose of the event was to promote reading and to provide fun activities for the community.
Participants arrived at the park to pick up their 'Sneetch Sheet' which had 10 businesses that engaged those participating in activities/readings and providing stamps to fill up their sneetch card.
After collecting their stamps, participants continued their journey back at Covered Bridge Park where additional organizations/vendors were available with goodies when families turned in their completed sheets.
A total of 600 sneetch cards were printed with all being given out while others sought to pick up a card.
Many of those attending were overheard talking about how they didn't know many of the businesses even existed in the downtown area and were pleased to get acquainted with business owners as they found new shopping destinations.
Businesses participating included Carter County Bank, Boomtown & Co., Pioneer Tattoo Co., Simple Blessing General Store, The Curious Moon Apothecary, The Peddler's Cart, and Tweetsie Trailing.
Community Partners for the day were: Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition, Elizabethton River Riders, Northeast Community Credit Union, Shafer Insurance Agency, and State of Franklin Healthcare Associates.
Those who turned in their completed cards were entered into a drawing at the end of the event for prizes.
Some of the goodies available included funnel cakes, fried Oreo cookies, freshly popped popcorn, and oven-fired pizza.
