Cohen beats rain, field for second ETA championship

Nick Cohen knows the importance of playing steady rounds at the Elizabethton Golf Course if one is to have a chance at pulling out a victory.

In the 29th annual William B. Greene Jr. East Tennessee Amateur that returned to the Elizabethton course, Cohen followed up an opening-round 64 on Friday with a pair of 69's to capture his second title with an overall 202 over the three-day event.

With hot temperatures on Friday and Saturday followed by some much needed rainfall on Sunday, Cohen beat the elements and 30 other golfers in the championship flight.

Lawrence Largent and Brandon Worley finished in a tie for second place as each golfer finished with a three-day total of 203.

Largent's Saturday round of 63 was the lowest round of the tournament by any golfer in the championship flight, but a 70 on Sunday put him just behind Cohen as the tournament came to an end.

Matt Bowers finished in fourth place while Caleb Tipton finished in fifth. The top five golfers were very, very close to each other as only three strokes separated first from fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 were Cameron Dugger (6), Austin Carter (7), Tyler Lane (8), and Gavin Sells and Blake Howard finishing tied for ninth place.

Flight winners included Tyler Church, Grayson Clark, Keith Buck, Mark Dugger, Keith Whitehead, and Mary Dave Blackman.

Danny Jones claimed the Super Senior Championship while Mike Poe won the Senior Championship.
