Open Burning

Beginning November 28, 2019, open burning will be prohibited in the City of Elizabethton. Recreational fires will still be allowed and do not require a permit.

Recreational Fire: An outdoor fire burning material other than rubbish where the fuel being burned is not contained in an incinerator, outdoor fireplace, BBQ grill, or BBQ pit and has a total fuel area of 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, cooking warmth or similar purposes.

Recreational fires must be at least 25 feet away from buildings and any other combustibles. They must be attended at all times until they are completely extinguished. An extinguishing agent such as an extinguisher, garden hose, water barrel or other means of extinguishment must be present.

BBQ pits,  fire pits, and  outdoor fireplaces will also still be allowed under the new ordinance.
