Sign and Marking Maintenance
Sign and Street Marking maintenance – We have 2 employees who are assigned the responsibility of maintaining our signs. The signs include Stop, Yield, Speed Limit and street markers etc.  They are all made using a retroreflective coating which makes them easier to see at night.  The Street Department updates a street sign asset management database which allows them to keep track of which signs have recently been replaced and also which signs need to be replaced in the future.  The database stores information such as street sign location, condition of sign, and type of retroreflective coating. This division is also responsible for pavement markings such as stop bars, pedestrian crosswalks and turning arrows.

Storm Drain Maintenance
pollutestickerStorm drain maintenance – The Street department maintains the storm drain system to reduce the chance of flooding and the destruction of property. The Street department works with the Storm Water Coordinator to ensure that the storm drain system is accurate.

Please Remember

Grass clippings and leaves blown into the street during yard maintenance end up in the nearest waterway. Storm water runoff washes clippings and other yard waste from our streets, sidewalks and driveways into the city’s storm drains, which lead directly to creeks and rivers in the area.

Street Maintenance
Street maintenance – We strive to provide safe and smooth streets for those who live or travel through Elizabethton. Our staff is involved in repairing city streets as well as patching potholes and repairing  roadway shoulders. The Street department repairs approximatley 25 to 30 pot holes each year. Streets are resurfaced as the budget will allow. Over the past few years we have been able to resurface several streets and have plans to begin resurfacing several more this summer and fall.
