Criminal Investigations DivisionThe Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for performing the investigative functions of the Elizabethton Police Department.  Members of CID answer citizen complaints, respond to major crime scenes, and investigate cases referred by the Patrol Division.  In addition, the division handles internal affairs investigations and background investigations of potential employees.

Each case is reviewed for solvability factors and is assigned to an investigator for follow-up based on the type of crime and the investigator's expertise.  Members of the division conduct interviews and lawful searches during an investigation to gather information or evidence useful in reconstructing the occurrence or circumstances of an illegal act.  The primary duties of an investigator include: the apprehension of offenders, recovery of stolen property, preparation of cases for court prosecutions, and presentation of evidence in court cases.

Special Victims Investigator (SVI):  Investigates and reviews all reports of crimes against a person-specializing in child abuse, elderly abuse, domestic violence, sexual assaults and assaults.  The SVI is a member of the local Child Protective Investigation Team (CPIT) and Vulnerable Adult Protective Investigation Team (VAPIT) working closely with Adult and Child Protective Services.

Narcotics/VICE Investigators:  The duties of the Narcotics/Vice Investigators cover all aspects of work associated with drug activity ranging from receiving and disseminating drug intelligence, conducting surveillance, making controlled narcotics purchases by use of undercover informants, and to executing search warrants on known drug locations.  In addition, the Narcotics/Vice Investigators focus on all vice activities, such as prostitution, gaming, illegal weapons, and illegal alcohol sales.
