Linear_Path_4The City of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department manages 101 acres of parkland that each offers its own amenities such as playgrounds, pavilions, athletic facilities, walking trails and open areas.


Overview:
Elizabethton offers miles of park-land, playgrounds, biking trails, walking trails and scenic pavilions for citizens and visitors. These amenities are open to the publfor use and in some cases, can be rented for private functions and events. 

Cat_Island_ParkPlaygrounds & Parks are a popular amenity to citizens. On pretty afternoons they are heavily used for families enjoying the fresh air and its hours of enjoyment. Parks and playgrounds located in the City include Harmon Park, Cat Island Park, Covered Bridge Park, Edwards Island, Walter Curtis Park, Riverside Park, Kiwanis Park and Douglas Park. Most are equipped with playgrounds and pavilions. Douglas and Cat Island Park additionally have ball fields and Cat Island is equipped with tennis courts for public use.

Pavilions are a popular place to hold birthday parties, family reunions and special gatherings. The City offers private rentals of some of our most popular pavilions. Those that are not available to reserve operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. See the bottom of this page for detailed information about pavilion rentals.
Parks, Playgrounds, Athletic Fields & Pavilions
Cat Island Park / City Park- Address: 814 Sixth St.
Cat_Island_ParkCat Island Park is located along US Highway 19E in the eastern half of Elizabethton. Adjacent to the park is the Elizabethton Linear Path. This 12.5 acre park has two ball fields, the Billy Bob Garrison Field and The Jim Ensor Field which hosts the Elizabethton / Carter County Youth Baseball and Softball Association, a tennis court facility, three pavilions and three separate playground areas.

Cat Island Park Pavilions- Cat Island Park offers three small size pavilions conveniently located near numerous playground areas, walking trails, tennis courts and softball/baseball fields. This popular park plays host to many birthday parties and celebrations throughout the year. Two pavilions operate on a first come first serve basis but pavilion #2 can be reserved for your next party or gathering.

Covered Bridge Park- Address: 700 Third St.
Picture1Covered Bridge Park is located on both sides of the Doe River bordered by Elk Avenue to the north and Riverside Drive to the west. This 2.25 acre park includes a small fountain, two pavilions, a gazebo, picnic tables, a large multi use stage and the historic Doe River Covered Bridge. This picturesque park located in downtown Elizabethton provides a lunch-break getaway for citizens during the hot summer days. It is also connected to other City parks via the Elizabethton Linear Path.

The park houses a small gazebo that is available to rent as well as a large multi use stage. The gazebo is the setting for many weddings and the park now boasts a large stage in the center of the park. Both are available for private reservations.

David McQueen Riverside Park- Address: 645 W. Riverside Park
Riverside_Park1This scenic park is nestled between the beautiful Watauga River and the Carmon Dugger Sports Complex. This 6.8 acre park is home to playground equipment and a pavilion with picnic tables. David McQueen Riverside Park is also located along the Elizabethton Linear Path. 

David McQueen Riverside Pavilion is located just behind Joe O'Brien Field and features a large covered shed which houses plenty of picnic tables, boasts grills for cooking and electrical hookups all closely nestled next to the Watauga River. The park conveniently has plenty of open grass area and a small playground. 

The pavilion at David McQueen Riverside Park is available for private reservations and rental information is as follows:

Dixon Street Park
Dixon Street Park is a 1.4 acre park bordered by Dixon Street and the Tweetsie Trail. There are no facilities located at this open grass park.
Doulgas Park- Address: 230 Church St.
Douglas_Park_and_Historic_Blue_Grays_FieldDouglas Park is located at the intersection of Watauga Street and Church Street. Once a school-park, this 3.7 acre neighborhood park has playground equipment, a basketball court, a large pavilion and a multi-use field. 

In the summer of 2016 the Blue Gray's Field, a youth baseball located at Douglas Park celebrated its induction into a Historical site in Elizabethton. 

The pavilion located at this property is free for public use and operates on a first come first serve basis.
Edwards Island and Rotary Pavilion- Address: 210 N Riverside Dr.
Rotary_Pavilion_at_Edwards_Island_ParkThis 3.2 acre mini-park is also located along the Doe River, just north of Covered Bridge Park, and has a pavilion with picnic tables. Located in downtown, the small island that makes up this mini-park is one of the ten parks along the Elizabethton Linear Path. 

The Rotary Pavilion is available for reservation at Edwards Island Park and it is a popular destination for family reunions, weddings, parties and more. Rental Information is as follows

Harmon Park- Address: 400 19E Bypass
Harmon Park 1Harmon Park (1.9 acres), located off of HWY 19E next to the old train, features brand new playground equipment, new sidewalks and plenty of space to stretch out! A large pavilion is located just in front of playground equipment, swings, a walking trail and a wide open field for play.

Kiwanis Park & Don Tetrick Pavilion- Address: 1208 W G St.

Kiwanis_ParkKiwanis Park is located at the intersection of G Street and Carter Boulevard. This 3.1 acre park has swings, playground equipment, a multi-use field, a basketball court and two pavilions with picnic tables and one large multi purpose pavilion complete with kitchenette and restrooms. The two pavilions are free to use and operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

The newly constructed (in summer 2015) Don Tetrick Pavilion is a community favorite! This pavilion offers picnic tables, a kitchenette equipped with a fridge, stove and microwave and restroom facilities located conveniently in the heart of Kiwanis Park. Lion's Field- Address: 2459 W Elk Ave.
Lions_Field_and_The_Tweetsie_TrailLions Field is located next to Elk Avenue in the western quarter of Elizabethton. The 12 acres is host to the Elizabethton / Carter County Youth Baseball and Softball Association. Also located at this facility is a great entry/exit to the Tweetsie Trail complete with designated parking and restrooms.
Mill Race Park
Mill Race Park is located along the Doe River with Riverside Drive to the east and the Broad Street Bridge to the north. Just over .5 acres, this mini-park is another stop along the Elizabethton Linear Path.
Race Street Park
Race Street Park is located near the intersection of Race Street and Pine Street. This 1.3 acre park is along the Elizabethton Linear Path. 
Walter Curtis Park- Address: 421 E G St.
Walter Curtis Memorial Park is located along H Street and Holston Avenue adjacent to the Senior Citizens Center. The 1.6 acre park contains two shuffleboard courts, two basketball courts, walking paths, a pavilion and various benches. 

Pavilion/Gazebo is available for public use and operates on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Carmon Dugger Sports Complex & Joe O'Brien Field- Address: 804 N Holly Ln.
This 9.8 acre sports complex contains Joe O’Brien Field where the Elizabethton Twins Minor League Baseball Team draws 29,500 fans and the Elizabethton High School Baseball team draws 6,500 fans annually.

The Women’s Softball Field is also located in the complex which host T.A. Dugger Junior High Softball participants.
