The Downtown Elizabethton Historic District incorporates much of the area originally founded as Elizabethton including the Historic Covered Bridge, the Carter County Courthouse, Barnes-Boring Hardware, the former Elizabethton Post Office, and the Bonnie Kate Theater. This district also includes some of Elizabethton's oldest and most beautiful homes along Hattie Avenue and Riverside Drive.
