Organized in 1908, The Elizabethton Fire Department is a career-based department consisting of 33 highly trained professionals. We operate 1 Aerial Ladder Apparatus, 1 Brush Truck and 4 Fire Engines out of 3 strategically located Fire Stations. EFD responds to structure fires, brush fires, fire alarms, motor vehicle  accidents, hazardous material incidents and in a support role on swift water emergencies as well as most other emergency's that may arise within the City of Elizabethton.

The Elizabethton Fire Dept. currently enjoys an ISO-Public Protection Classification rating of 3. This places Elizabethon in the top 10 percent of all rated communities nationwide.

The Elizabethton Fire Dept. services 14,200 permanent residents within an approximately 9 square mile area of Carter County, TN. EFD also provides emergency response to 4 Elementary Schools, 2 Middle Schools, 2 High Schools and 4 College Campuses. The Elizabethton Airport, Wings Air Rescue, Sycamore Shoals Hospital, 5 nursing homes and 4 retirement homes also reside within EFD's coverage area.
