Beverage Board approves three items of new business

The Elizabethton Beverage Board met immediately following the conclusion of the March City Council meeting and addressed three items of new business presented.

Jiggy Ray's Pizzeria located at 610 East Elk Avenue presented a request for permission to serve alcohol outside of the restaurant's boundaries during the planned JiggyPalooza festival.

The request was made by Savannah Markham of Jiggy Ray's, 610 East Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, for permission to serve beer in the Bicentennial Breezeway, which is adjacent to the restaurant, from 12:00 Noon to 11:00 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2024, during a one day outdoor festival event "JiggyPalooza".

The board voted 7-0 to approve the request.

A beer permit application was made by Ringway, Inc. d/b/a Tri-City Wholesale Tobacco #8 located at 319 Broad Street, Suite 3 in Elizabethton.

Mr. Hitesh Patel has operated Tri-City Wholesale Tobacco #8, 137 West Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, TN, since 2019. Due to opening at the new location, he has surrendered his beer permit for that location, which was approved June 13, 2019, #2019-04, on February 7, 2024.

Mr. Patel has reopened the business at a newly developed business location, 319 East Elk Avenue, Suite 3, Elizabethton, TN 37643. He received a temporary permit on February 7, 2024 and requested approval of a permanent off-premise, convenience store beer permit.

Once again the Beverage Board voted 7-0 in favor of the permit.

Finally, the Bargain Barn, Inc. presented an application for an off-premise, grocery store beer permit.

The Bargain Barn d/b/a United Grocery Outlet was approved for a beer permit originally in 2013 and recently underwent an ownership change.

According to the attorney's office handling the transaction for the company, Adams and Reese LLP, the change in the upper tier ownership will be more than fifty (50%) percent.

City Attorney Day reviewed the new application and approved it to be on the March agenda, so that there were no outstanding items to interfere with the closing day which is understood to take place in April.

The Beverage Board approved the application 7-0.
