Early Morning ATM Burglary and Vehicle Theft Investigation

On Friday morning, February 9th 2024, just after 4 AM, Elizabethton Police Officers responded to an alarm from the ATM machine at Carter County Bank, 1254 Milligan Highway.

Upon arrival, officers found the ATM machine had been burglarized.  While responding to the alarm, officers found an abandoned pickup truck in the parking lot of a business on the 1300 block of Milligan Highway.

It was determined that vehicle was used in the burglary to the ATM machine.  It was found the truck was stolen prior to the burglary from a business on the 2600 block of the Elizabethton Highway (TN 91).

The investigation has revealed the suspects used a chain attached to the stolen truck to gain access to the ATM machine.  An undetermined amount of cash was taken from the ATM.

We need help from the public with this investigation.  We kindly ask residents and business owners in the areas of the Elizabethton Highway, Milligan Highway, West Elk Avenue, Pinecrest, Central, King Springs, and Milligan College communities, including the areas near and in between to review your security cameras for suspicious activity and other vehicles from last night through early this morning.

The stolen pickup truck involved in the burglary was a white early 2000 model Dodge full size pickup. The truck did arrive at the bank with the chain already attached.

The EPD is searching for additional video containing the suspect vehicle or suspicious activity from other vehicles that could be involved in this incident.

Area businesses and farms that use heavy chains should check inventory to determine if they have a heavy chain stolen during the overnight hours.
