City welcomes Bushell to GIS and Engineering Department

The City of Elizabethton recently announced the hiring of Matthew Bushell as the new GIS Technician in the GIS and Engineering Department.

 

Bushell spent over eight years working at the Gray Fossil Site and Museum in various roles, including the collection and curation of spatial data from the site. He will continue to spend some of his spare time writing scientific papers on material stored at the site.

 

He recently obtained his Master's in Geosciences from East Tennessee State University where he also obtained a Bachelor's in the same field. While at ETSU, Bushell studied Geology, Paleontology, and Archaeology as well as developed skills in many different Geographic Information Systems including those used by the City of Elizabethton.

 

“I’m excited to join the team at Elizabethton’s engineering department," said Bushell. "The folks here are incredible and they’re very knowledgeable about the town and the best ways to keep track of where things like utilities are. It’s been a great experience so far and we’ve already got several projects underway. I’m looking forward to what the future holds!”

 

 

Matthew Balogh, GIS and Engineering Programs Manager, said that Bushell will be working on mapping water, sewer and stormwater appurtenances and maintaining their associated GIS databases.
